What Students Say

I’m a great artist – in my imagination. It’s the translation into reality – and the paper that the battle begins. Years ago, looking out of a window, a pencil in hand, I was convinced that my inability to draw straight lines without a scale, or a circle without a compass was the problem. If only I had steady hands, Sigh.

Cut to 2020, circumstances & intent got me to Radhika’s easel & computer. I spent a couple of months, at home looking at her screen with my pencils & colours. She introduced the basics – light, shapes, colour wheel, perspective & the intent which needs to go behind making a mark on the paper. It is imagination, for sure, but it starts with the basics – composition, palette & the subject. Intentional pencil & brush strokes. I went outdoors – to parks, roads, buildings – looking with my eyes, deliberately & then looking through Radhika’s lens, understanding the shadows, the shapes overlooked, the complications I brought in. I simplified & found elements of beauty.

This morning, after about six months of intermittent practice, as I attempt to recreate a perspective drawing, I understand how to structure, break and approach a composition more sensibly – as I like to say. The brush miles & the pencil strokes are not as fast as I’d like them to be. The intent is stronger & attempts more conscious.

The journey is well begun.

Having known Radhika as an artist first, admiring her work led me to be her student.

As an art teacher, Radhika’s approach is unique and interesting. She teaches fundamentals in a fun way, equips you with the right tools and techniques and answers all questions patiently. And yes, she surely prods you to practice, practice and practice; get your brush moving as ‘Just do Art’ is her motto! She will surely add the colour to your life 🙂

Being a novice to the world of art, this workshop provided a level of comfort to me, boosted my confidence and most importantly helped me shed my insecurities. The effective teaching techniques combined with your astute, perceptive and personalized observations aids students to discover their potentials and open a world of possibilities. In a nutshell, this is a art cum therapy workshop for me!!!

I was never professionally trained in painting and I never knew I had it in me to paint. But your teaching gave me the confidence to come out of my shell. You were patient, encouraging and motivating. I liked the way you structured the sessions. With your teaching the basic foundation is good so hope I continue to paint what you taught. Thank You Radhika.

I have attended the workshop “Starting watercolours” and was lucky to be a part of online sessions conducted during lockdown days “Covidiots”. Both workshops were very interesting as well as a wonderful & colourful journey with a lot of takeaways. Amongst the many other picks would especially like to mention how these sessions changed my perspective towards Art and realised soon that Art is not about drawing but a language for unspoken communication. And Radhika being a wonderful artist could make this language as simple as lines and shapes for an amateur like me. She taught us to “observe” and not just “see” things, to break down complex compositions into simple geometric shapes. She makes even the technical aspects very interesting and easy. Thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and looking forward to continuing this journey!!!

Being an Architect, I always had an artistic approach in my work. I used to do oil painting for a long time and was always fascinated by watercolors. Lockdown gave me that opportunity and I started taking a watercolor painting course from Ms. Radhika Bawa.
Radhika is a very talented artist and her passion for watercolor is evident in her teaching. All the interesting exercises which i did during the course have taught minutest of details regarding observation, composition, drawing and painting. Watercolor being the toughest medium of painting, one can lose interest very fast. I am able to work in watercolors without fear because of her constant guidance. Radhika makes sure to keep your interest alive by motivating continuously. She has made my watercolor journey very meaningful and enjoyable. Thank you Radhika.

I am a Student from Radhika’s first online painting class during Covid-19 lockdown and believe me, it was nothing less than a good “me time”. Having hectic weekdays to looking forward to weekend painting classes is just like a therapy for me as Radhika would be extremely patient and equally excited to teach us and see how creative it gets… her techniques are so detailed and very helpful for a beginner like me. Her paintings are motivation for me to keep practicing 😌
